Building a Career In Compliance and Ethics (9780979221026): Joseph E. Murphy, Joshua H. Leet: Books. Co-founder of one of the world's leading compliance and ethics training consulting firms, Joe Murphy is a seasoned professional in corporate governance, has served as an expert trial witness on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for the U.S. Department of Justice, and has served with distinction as a consultant for the U.S. Sentencing Commission. Together, Murphy and Leet have collaborated to create a thoroughly user-friendly, step-by-step instruction manual on how to establish a career making corporate organizations and governmental agencies safer and more ethical in ''Building a Career in Compliance and Ethics: Find Your Place In the Business World s Hottest New Field.'' Readers will learn about the wide range of compliance and ethics jobs there are to choose from; the skills and temperament needed to work in the field of compliance and ethics; practical ways to prepare for and succeed in this challenging career field; as well as how to conduct an effective job search. Of special note is the advice gleaned from experienced compliance and ethics professionals in the field, and a wealth of practical tips for selling a compliance and ethics program to upper management. Exceptionally well written and organized, ''Building a Career in Compliance and Ethics'' should be a part of every job center and employment counseling reference collection. --Small Press Bookwatch, June 2007If you are in business, then you almost certainly know about the negative ramifications of corporate wrongdoing at Enron, Arthur Andersen, WorldCom and Tyco. One after-effect of those scandals could prove to be a positive for you. Compliance and ethics is one of the fastest-growing career fields in the U.S., say the authors, who say there are fortunes to be made showing rich and powerful organizations how to avoid ethical pitfalls. --Triangle Business Journal, Aug. 31, 2007Building a Career in Compliance and Ethics is an excellent read. In the beginning chapters, the authors provide thorough background information on why and how interested professionals can enter the field of compliance. The authors explanation of why the demand for compliance professionals continues to rise lays a solid foundation for the rest of the book. I was impressed with his ability to define not only the field of compliance but also the different titles of compliance professionals and how these individuals fit into the corporate structure. The book effectively provides insight into the skills, experience, and education needed to be successful in this field. I particularly enjoyed how the authors defined the compliance profession and differentiated how this area has grown significantly as a result of recent legislation. They even provide, in the appendices, an overview of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which serves as the foundation of all compliance programs.... The field of compliance is quite large. The book does a great job of breaking down the field into various segments and exploring ways in which professionals can pursue many different types of compliance roles. It further emphasizes the need for experienced professionals and points to how readers can gain the requisite experience and education. The authors describe a variety of career paths that an individual can in the compliance profession. The analogy of how a person can position oneself for future opportunities from the experience gained as a compliance professional is excellent. Many compliance professionals express concern about hitting a glass ceiling, but the authors describe effective methods to go beyond compliance in any company. Overall, Building a Career in Compliance and Ethics is a great resource for compliance professionals and those considering a transition into the field. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning more about careers in compliance, as well as[6117] Author Joseph E.
