Hi Eric,

You just goto the auction you want to extend the time on, and click the "revise your item" button and scroll down to the "Edit Pictures and Details" and click on it..

Then, scroll down to the duration and change to a longer time period..

You have to do this before it gets beyond the 12 hour mark (for instance 11 hours and 59 minutes left).

Regarding the value of this, I have had about a 1000 auctions or more that I have done this with and I have had plenty of time to evaluate this technique..

I have found that setting it first as a 3 day auction and then extending to maybe 5 or 7 is good..

But, if you do 5 day and then extend to 7 day, I don't believe it is much better than just putting it up as a 7 day auction..

The only reason 3 day is good to start with is because it forces customers to consider the fact they have to make a decision now, rather than putting it off a few days, as it will likely end before they come back..

So, the 3 day has the make a decision now factor to it..  Going 3 day and then if no buys before the 12 hour mark, extend to 7 days or maybe 5 days..

Hi Anthony,
How do you extend the time of an auction. (I remember reading on your web site that you should do that. Put it on for 3 days, then extend it to 5, and then 7 days so that it is always about ready to end. I did that with one of my auctions, but I have not been able to find out how to extend it.)
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Eric

Hi Eric,

You are right..  This is the first time a login has not worked..

I will be checking into it tonight and fixing it so your password works..

1) Making money to get the eBay dropoff center idea going, right?

2) Wow, you are the first to express interest in this route.  I should definitely be of some help in this area, although, I have never done it.

Basically, I have done a lot of the tasks that sum up to daily tasks and things you would deal with if you did have an eBay dropoff center..

The first thing I would have to warn you about is profits..  Basically, from my experiences selling all manner of items on eBay, lets say you calculate the costs and what will in the end be your profit..  OK, what you think would be "good profit", you need to double it.  Because, by the time the real world situation kicks in, your profits are often eaten in expenses you did not consider or your profits are not as high as you thought..

So, the idea, is you have to calculate in a "safety factor" of about 2 to the whole equation.  If it looks like you could get buy with 10% profit selling other people's items, you might want to consider 15% or 20%, as that is probably where it would work..

Do you see what I mean?

I am thinking the breakdown would be something like:

Price it sold for - eBay fees - your percentage = what your customer gets from the sale..

Another piece of good advice:

From my experiences getting products and product lines up and running on eBay, I would say the best way to start is with one location, get ALL the bugs and I mean ALL of them out of the system at that one location.  This might take a year or two or maybe even three.  THEN, after this, start making new locations based on the model from the first location.  So the first location has be to PRIME..  You have to assume all the others are for all practical purposes, not as good, potentially.

So, again, factoring in the failure "safety factor" just in case things don't go like you hoped.

In other words, you have to set it up so you win no matter what.  You win if things go according to the worst case scenerio and you really win if they go according to your best case scenerio.  You need to have it so you are even making money in your worst case scenerio projections..  For, it is definitely a 50/50 on which way it will go..

ANOTHER piece of advice:

Sell only high priced items..  Items over $25..  Name brand items you can BANK on.  Nic nacs, no name items are not reliable and you have no clue what they will sell for..

I have found, though, through lots of experience, that name brand items are very predictable, if you know the method of predicting the value (WHICH I can teach).

No brand items are like the waves of the sea.  No joke..  I know from lots of experience on this one also..  I have items that I can only sell for HALF what they used to sell for..  No joke..  Some guitars I bought from China..

Popular items are electronics, hardware, car audio, camera, video, etc.

You could brand your company to be something that focuses a popular genre..

3) Writing your eBooks can be a tricky thing.. Before you start doing it, ask me about it..  As, most people do it backwards.  They write the ebook and then they go and sell it..  What I do is REVERSE ENGINEER everything.. So, I go find what eBooks are selling awesome, find the ones on the best topics I like, and then I create or find the eBook to sell on that topic..

Sincerely
Tony

Hi Tony,
I got on, and got a login and password, but now I can not log on to the system with it. login: pp-tildeping
(I tried logging in at www.salesdaddy.com, at the bottom there was a login button at the bottom.)

As for what I would like to do:

1) Make some money for my other projects.
2) Create a Ebay Dropoff center, where I put up other people's items on ebay, and receive a commission for it.
3) Distribute to-yet-be-written ebooks on topics such as alternative building techniques, ethanol production and use in cars, Using Linux and opensource programs, and others

Currently, I do some selling on ebay, netting me $1000-$2000 a month, but I do not know how long that will last, and it is time consuming.

I have a wholesaler that has alot of old hunting and fishing equipment that they would like me to liquidate, and possible put their present Toy Line online. (Either ebay, or simply a web site.)

I have a current interest in Open Source, Alternative building, and ethanol production and use for fuel, which once I get a steady income going, I will be working and publishing ebooks on How-to's for my interests.

And presently unemployed, (If you don't call ebaying a job) but I have two registered Michigan Corporations. (One with a branch office in Kazakhstan.)

I think that about covers the intro.
Sincerely,
Eric
